Quetiapine is used to treat the symptoms of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or depression. It works by helping to restore the balance of certain natural substances (neurotransmitters) in the brain. Drug therapy is integral to the management of acute psychotic episodes in patients with schizophrenia and it can also be used with lithium or divalproex for long-term treatment of bipolar I disorder generally is required for long-term stabilization to sustain symptom remission or control and to minimize the risk of relapse. Tt can be used alone or with the drugs lithium or divalproex.

Antipsychotic agents are the principal class of drugs used for the management of all phases of schizophrenia. For major depression, quetiapine is used as an add-on treatment for people already taking antidepressant drugs. This medication can decrease hallucinations and improve your concentration. Patient response and tolerance to antipsychotic agents are variable, and patients who do not respond to or tolerate one drug. It helps you to think more clearly and positively about yourself, feel less nervous, and take a more active part in everyday life. It’s used when your doctor decides that one antidepressant alone is not enough to treat your depression.
